Treatment of varicose veins and spider veins have gone through many changes over the last few years. New lasers(EVLT) and catheters(VNUS closure) have been introduced to BURN the saphenous vein in the inner aspect of the thigh. This has been with the assumption that the only source of these varicose veins and spiders are in the thigh area. The old stripping technique was based on this concept as well. The visible veins in the legs were removed with multiple painful and unsightly cuts under major anesthesia. What Endo laser (EVLT) and Vnus closure and old stripping fail to do is to find and address ALL the leaks in the leg. In most if not all patients there are several sources for the varicose veins and spiders and they all have to be treated simultaneously. Our patented technique ( Harvester technique) is intended to address all these tiny or larger leaks (perforators) and also all the spiders thus creating near perfect legs in over 99% of our patients. Lasers are an effective tool at the end of the treatment for spiders after all the feeing veins causing the spiders have been eliminated. Any laser work prior to this step will result in return of the treated spiders. Another important factor is that the varicose and spider vein treatments should carry minimal if any risks. It has been show many times that both Vnus closure and Endo-laser(EVLT) could create clots in the larger vein ( so called DVT) which can be potentially fatal.
