Varicose Veins Laser Treatment in NY

Lasers have been used for 2 decades to treat various ailments. Their use in treatment of varicose veins is relatively new. Many physicians use lasers to close tiny spiders veins in the legs. The problem is that large spiders cannot be closed using the laser energy but the main problem is that lasers will not work effectively or long term unless the responsible leaks/ veins are also addressed and sealed. High pressure from these leaks cause the varicose veins and then the spiders. The course of treatment has to start from the leaks towards the veins and then the spiders not the other way around. There is also some chance of skin damage with lasers and also scar formations and pigmentation. These are usually caused by too much laser energy over the involved skin and or having a dark skin which also absorbs the laser energy. HOWEVER THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR IN ELIMINATING THE VEINS AND SPIDERS REMAIN THE ELIMINATION OF THE RESPONSIBLE LEAKS AND VEINS. Endo-laser technique is using a laser fiber to generate enough heat inside the Saphenous vein from groin to the knee so it destroys this part of the Saphenous vein. In about 10% of patients the laser could fail to close the vein. In a small number of patients the heat of the laser damages surrounding tissues and the larger veins(deep veins) and causes clots. This is a very serious concern and would require hospitalization and long term blood thinners. Same complication has been reported with the Electro-frequency (VNUS closure) technique. All treatment modalities for varicose veins and spider vein have to be extremely safe and free of major complications. The latest approach to safely treat the varicose veins without major anesthesia is the harvester technique. The idea behind this approach is to eliminate all the tiny leaks(perforators) which cause varicose veins and spiders. Unlike Endo-laser and VNUS closure technique no heat is used for the treatment , there is no risk of damage to the deeper veins and deep vein phlebitis. All the lower smaller leaks are also identified and sealed using foam sclerotherapy. The end result should be a near perfect leg in over 99% of patients.
